HP XP P9000 for Compatible High Perf FICON (R) Connectivity Software
High Performance FICON for system z or zHPF is an enhancement of the FICON channel architecture; which also means compatibility with certain standards such as Fibre Channel Physical and Signaling standard (FC-FS), Fibre Channel Switch Fabric and Switch Control Requirements (FC-SW), and Fibre Channel Single-Byte-4 (FC-SB-4) standards. Enhancements have been made to the z/Architecture and the FICON interface architecture to deliver improvements for online transaction processing (OLTP) workloads.
zHPF is implemented exclusively in System z10. When High Performance FICON is exploited by the FICON channel, the z/OS operating system, and the control unit; the FICON channel overhead will be reduced.
This is achieved by simplification of the protocol, and by reducing the number of information units processed, resulting in more efficient use of the fiber link.
Supported Hardware Environment:

HP XP P9000 for Compatible PAV Software
HP XP P9000 for Compatible Parallel Access Volumes and HP XP P9000 for Compatible Hyper PAV Software enable high performance concurrent access of mainframe volumes by permitting a mainframe host system to issue multiple I/O requests in parallel to individual logical devices within the HP XP P9500 Storage. Without PAV, mainframe systems can initiate only one I/O request per device at a time, and must wait for the I/O to complete before starting another I/O request to the same device.
By utilizing alias addresses that all point to the same device as the base address, PAV enables the host system to start several I/O requests simultaneously to the same device, thus greatly improving performance. The XP P9500 Storage supports static PAV, dynamic PAV, and Hyper PAV. With static PAV, the number of aliases assigned to each base device does not change.
With dynamic PAV, high workload base devices can borrow idle PAV aliases from other base devices, increasing their I/O capability.

HP XP P9500 Storage
Features:
Improve Performance with Rebalanced Resource Utilization
- Obtain usage statistics for disk drives, logical volumes, processors, and other resources in your HP XP P9500 Storage so that you can keep your application working at peak efficiency.
- HP XP P9000 Auto LUN Software allows you to migrate data from overloaded resources to underutilized resources, while your application continues to access the data. Performance is improved without disruption.
HP XP P9000 Array Manager Software
HP XP P9000 Array Manager Software improves efficiency and maintains quality of service by allowing you to manage data volumes and allocate HP XP P9500 Storage resources so that your applications receive the proper level of support. Create LUNs, create expanded LUNs, and create small custom size volumes, and establish host access to them.
Efficiently control replication volumes with a host-based command line interface. Improve performance by reserving areas of cache to store frequently accessed data.
Isolate applications by subdividing the XP P9500 Storage into smaller segments, each consisting of dedicated cache, disk and ports. HP XP P9000 Array Manager Software protects your data by controlling access, preventing unauthorized alteration, and securely deleting data when it is no longer required. Configure security to prevent unauthorized servers from accessing the data.
Supported Hardware Environment:
HP XP P9500 Storage
Features:
Effectively Manage your HP XP P9500 Storage resources
- Make most effective use of your HP XP P9500 Storage by using HP XP P9000 Array Manager Software to configure and manage data volumes. Create LUNs, create expanded LUNs, create small custom size volumes, configure ports, and add or delete host I/O paths.
- Efficiently manage HP XP P9000 Continuous Access and HP XP P9000 Business Copy volumes with a host-based command line interface. Additionally, you can use the command line interface to configure and manage read-only and archive volumes.
- Improve file access times and accelerate data transfers by reserving areas of cache to store frequently accessed information. Assigning data to on-board cache improves performance because cache-resident data is available at host data transfer speeds for both read and write operations.
Configure your HP XP P9500 Storage per your business demands
- Rest easy knowing that the critical applications have the resources required to deliver the expected performance.
- Minimize risk of unauthorized access to your online data using HP XP P9000 Array Manager Software to configure, manage and secure all host accesses to the HP XP P9500 Storage.
- Protect critical data for archiving or data retention purposes. Create read-only volumes, prevent data replication, control read and write access, and protect data sets from query/IO scan/file system inquiry operations.
Save Time by Automating Routine Tasks
- Save time and reduce errors by automating array configuration and management tasks using the Command Line Interface (CLI) and scripts. Interface with SRM software platforms using the SMI-S provider.
- Protect your information at the end of its lifecycle by securely deleting it. Based on DoD5220.22-M, the standard defined by the U.S. Department of Defense, XP P9000 Array Manager Software allows you to completely delete data on specified volume by repeatedly overwriting the volume with dummy data.
HP XP P9000 Resource Partition Software
HP XP P9000 Resource Partition Software allows role based access control of XP P9500 resources. It allows storage administrators to partition XP P9500 Storage resources, at physical and logical level (Ports, Parity Groups, LDEV, Host Groups, External Volume) and assigning these resources to sub-administrators while retaining overall control. HP XP P9000 Resource Partition Software is ideal for a multi-tenant environment set up where dedicated sub-administrators need to manage the IT infrastructure needs of their respective business units.
At the same time, it allows the datacenter administrator retain complete control of XP P9500 Storage resources. Datacenter administrators can decide to partition XP P9500 Storage resources either at a logical level to improve storage utilization efficiency or at a physical level to improve quality of service and avoid data and access breaches across multiple tenants.
Supported Hardware Environment:
HP XP P9500 Storage
Features:
Efficiently manage a large and complex datacenter running on XP P9500 Storage
- Assign role based access controls to sub-administrators to modularize IT infrastructure management, even with a central IT infrastructure resource pool.
- Useful for cloud service providers and for organizations with consolidated IT infrastructure, providing a platform to multiple tenants to host storage and charging as per usage.
Partition your HP XP P9500 Storage per your business demands
- Maximize XP P9500 Storage resource utilization with shared resources such as Ports, Parity Groups and External Storage, and dedicated resources such as host groups and LDEVs, with logical partitioning of XP P9500 Storage.
- Create resource groups based on the needs of your customers or business units, helping to ensure that quality of service and data secrecy requirements are met with hardware based partitioning.
